As God’s holy people, and specifically as Wesleyans, we believe God’s love has the power to transform lives – individually and collectively! In fact, as the Greater Ohio District, our mission is …
Transforming lives, churches and communities with the hope and holiness of Jesus Christ!
To see that happen, we must fully open ourselves to the presence and power of the Holy Spirit – to allow Him to work in and through us to bring the Kingdom of God to bear in our time and place.
That is the heart and focus of the G3:28 Project (named for Galatians 3:28). It’s about evangelism and discipleship – loving our neighbors and sharing the love of Jesus in practical, yet powerful, ways so people know God. It’s about becoming passionate allies and advocates in the advancement of God’s Kingdom. We’re about making a difference in our world as we live as ONE IN JESUS.
You can rise to the occasion and make a difference! Please don’t check out and decide you’re exempt from engagement in the ministry of reconciliation because of our tendency to limit our thinking to only racial issues and your community lacks ethnic diversity. Yes, there’s that aspect, AND there’s more to consider! Pray earnestly, ask God to open your eyes and look around. What about economic brokenness, educational disparity, marginalized people with special needs, or other concerns to address?
As God’s people, who are building for His Kingdom, we must open our eyes, minds, hearts and hands to the Spirit of God as He invites and empowers us to join Him in righteousness and justice.
In the words of N.T. Wright,
There is no opt-out for us if we are committed to Jesus as Lord and the way that lordship becomes part of a life lived in community with others. To be clear, this is not about a Christian takeover. It is about Christian testimony in an age of troubles, terror, tyranny and tragedy. The reason for that is simple: the kingdom of God. Precisely because we believe that Jesus is King and his kingly power is operative among us, we cannot retreat to the attic of spiritual affairs, not when there is a gospel to proclaim and a hurting world crying out for healing and hope. [Jesus and the Powers, pg. 76]
The Psalmist declared, O LORD God of Heaven’s Armies. Where is there anyone as mighty as you, O LORD? You are entirely faithful… Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne. Unfailing love and truth walk before you as attendants. (Psalm 89:8 & 14 NLT)
Imagine if we were to pray that God would open our eyes to see wrongs that need to be made right in our communities – and that He would use us as the answer to our prayers in finding someone to make a difference by doing something about it. It’s the prayer, “Your kingdom come, your will be done.”
